Introduction

About the Project

The Annapurna Recipe Organizer is a conceptual app for kitchen staff at Annapurna, a fictional Indian restaurant. The goal was to replace time-consuming cookbook use with a digital tool for easier recipe access, personalized recommendations, and smooth uploads of new recipes.

Project Overview

Objectives and Challenges

The objective is to streamline recipe access and recommendations for kitchen staff by replacing traditional cookbooks with a user-friendly digital platform. The challenges include adapting to the shift from physical to digital resources. The solution offers features to browse, search, and filter recipes, bookmark favorites, upload and share new recipes, and provide personalized recommendations.

Design Process

From Inspiration to High-Fidelity Designs

Research and Inspirations

Inspired by apps like Kitchen Stories, SideChef, and Epicurious, I adapted relevant UX patterns to suit the needs of a fast-paced kitchen.

Wireframes

Outlined core features and navigation.

Mid-Fidelity Designs

In the mid-fidelity phase, I began to introduce real text, basic icons, and UI elements to create a more realistic representation of the app.

High-Fidelity Design

The high-fidelity design was built upon the wireframe, incorporating images, typography, icons, and colors to enhance the overall look and feel.

Prototype

I developed prototypes in both mid and high-fidelity to simulate the app's interactivity.

Iterations

Refining the Design

Tab Bar Update

Moved “Create New Recipe” to a More section for better organization.

Visual Tweaks

Several small visual iterations were made throughout the design process.

Key Features

Essential App Functions

Search and Filter Recipes

Users can search for specific recipes or filter them by ingredient, category, or dietary preferences.

Bookmark Recipes

Favorite recipes can be saved and accessed later through the bookmark feature.

Upload New Recipes

The kitchen staff can contribute new recipes by uploading them directly through the app, making the process seamless.

Conclusion

Key Learnings and Takeaways

The Annapurna Recipe Organizer app provides an efficient way for kitchen staff to access, search, and share recipes. While I didn’t use user personas or conduct direct research, I gained insights by analyzing similar apps. Through this project, I improved my understanding of UI design. In future projects, I plan to explore more aspects of the design process to grow further as a designer.
